Benitez makes contact with the agent of exciting Atletico Madrid attacker – Spanish reports

Some potentially exciting transfer rumblings coming from Spain today, with Mi Otra Liga.com claiming Rafa Benitez has made contact with the agent of Angel Correa, in a bid to bring the exciting Atletico Madrid forward to Newcastle this summer.

Interestingly, the report states that Correa’s agent also represents Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez, claiming that Benitez has been in contact for the pair, in an attempt to pull of what would be undoubtedly be our signing of the summer.

Benitez’s interest in Lucas Vazquez was claimed over the weekend, however interest in Argentinian international Angel Correa is a new name to add to the never ending list of reported ‘targets’.

Correa is a 22-year old attacker who can operate centrally or wide right, having bagged 10 goals and 8 assists last season despite 28 of his 49 appearances being made from the substitutes bench.

The signing of either Vazquez or Correa  would get ‘bums of seats’, being the sort of marquee signing that so many of us crave. Whilst both options looks incredibly ambitious at this stage, Rafa’s pulling power, his contacts in Spain an their desire for regular first team football may just give us a glimmer of hope.

For now, such reports are nothing more than rumours, but until we know more, here’s some clips of Correa in action last season:

  1. Wish we could just get on with getting our wanted players in unify our squad for the coming season. If we have to pay over the odds so be it for quality. Lucas Perez has to be one of them he is shear class no doubt and he definitely knows where the goal is so just go for it we lose too many players because we try too hard to get bargain prices!!
