Newcastle United enjoyed an impressive 3-1 win over Wolfsburg yesterday in our penultimate pre-season friendly of the summer, and one man who caught the eye was Mikel Merino who shone in his 2nd half cameo.
The Spanish U-21 midfielder is considered to be quite a coup for the club, arriving on loan with an obligation to buy for £6.5m next summer, and produced this sublime piece of play in yesterday’s game:

Aside from this rather impressive passage from Merino, it must be said that the 21-year old oozed class in his 2nd half display. He made several well timed tackles, screened the defence very well and looked calm, confident and efficient in possession.
There was some impressive moments yesterday from his fellow summer signings Atsu and Manquillo to name two, but this was a moment of magic from Merino, with this perfectly timed tackle and nonchalant outside of the foot pass giving us all a taste of what may be to come from the midfield maestro.
