Benitez speaks out about Arsenal’s Lucas Perez & sends transfer update to NUFC fans

Following our 2-0 win over Hellas Verona at St. James’ Park, Rafa Benitez has spoken out on his transfer plans for the remainder of the summer window, also commenting on his interest in Arsenal’s Lucas Perez, confirming his interest in the striker.

Newcastle have been linked with former Deportivo and current Arsenal Lucas Perez over the past week, and Benitez said the following when asked if there was any interest in the Spanish forward:

“I like the player because I have good friends in Coruña.

“I know that he did really well. He’s come here and not played in many games, but I like the player.”

Rafa may not give a great deal away as to whether any deal could happen here, but the fact he praises the striker and confirms his fondness of him as a player says a lot to me.

Benitez then went on to offer the fans an update on Newcastle’s current situation in the market, confirming the need for ‘solutions’ to add ‘balance’ to the squad over the coming month:

“We are still working and trying to find solutions one way or the other. It is very clear we have to balance the squad.”

“We know what we need and will try to do it until the end of the transfer window.

“We are now trying to work in different directions at the time.

“More players will leave, and hopefully we can bring more in too.

“Rest assured we are working very hard to make additions. We still have much to improve on before we face Spurs next week.”

With 4 weeks of the window remaining, Newcastle have plenty still to sell and require a minimum of 3 or 4 more additions, but Rafa sounds relatively upbeat.

Here’s hoping NUFC step up their efforts to sign Lucas Perez – Benitez certainly sounds like he’d be interested..
