According to the Stoke Senitel, Newcastle only offered Stoke ‘a fraction’ of the £12m bid that was rumoured to have been made for Joselu by the media, with Stoke believed to be looking to recoup the £5.75m fee they paid for the Spaniard two seasons ago.
The Mirror claimed on Saturday night that Benitez was ‘furious’ after a ‘£12m bid’ was rejected for Stoke striker Joselu, however the Stoke Senitel have played down suggestions that such a bid was made, suggesting instead that Newcastle’s offer was a fraction of that price.
Interestingly, they reveal that Stoke would want to recoup “most if not all” of the £5.75m paid for to Hannover for the 6ft 3′ striker two years ago.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle will renew their interest in the former Spain U-21 forward, however at a fee in the region of £5m, the in-form striker – who has 4 goals in 2 games over pre-season – could be considered as a handy replacement for the outgoing Daryl Murphy?
