Big boost for NUFC with Spurs set to be without several first team players on Sunday

Newcastle have been handed a boost ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener against Spurs, with news of injury concerns over Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min, Danny Rose, Victor Wanyama, Kieran Trippier and Erik Lamela.

Son, who bagged 21 goals last season, suffered an elbow injury on international duty and looks likely to start from the bench, while midfield powerhouse Victor Wanyama is deemed ‘doubtful’.

Kieran Tripper limped off in Tottenham’s pre-season friendly against Juventus last week and also looks likely to miss out, leaving Mauricio Pochettino with problems at right-back after selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50m this summer.

Left-back Danny Rose is nearing a return as he steps up his recovery from a long standing, but will also miss out, as will Argentine international winger Erik Lamela.

The illustrious trio of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are fit and ready for Sunday’s game, but the above absentees will leave some holes in an otherwise strong Spurs team.

  1. “Several injury blows”?
Only Trippier will be missing from the side that defeated Juventus 2-0.
And Lamela hasn’t played for a year so can hardly be considered as a “blow” to Spurs’ chances.
Olly Hawkins needs to keep a rein on his hysterical headlines and get a reality check.
A bit of research might help, too. Son’s shoulder injury is below the elbow!

Wanyama, Son and Trippier would’ve all played if it wasn’t for their injuries picked up over the past few days/weeks.

Rose and Lamela have been stepping up their recoveries so yes I take your point, but it remains a boost to our chances that they won’t make it.
