NUFC set for striker signing as Sky Sports’ reliable Spanish correspondent claims deal is ‘close’

It was confirmed over the weekend that Newcastle remained in talks to sign Stoke City striker Joselu, and it emerged late last night from reliable Spanish’ correspondent Guillem Balague that the Spaniard is ‘close’ to sealing a £5m move to St. James’ Park.

Interest in the 6ft 3′ striker was revealed in the Stoke Senitel recently, who claimed Newcastle had a ‘derisory’ opening offer rejected, however it appears as if both clubs could be close to agreeing a fee in the region of £5m.

The 27-year old failed to make a major impact since making a £6m move to Stoke in 2015, scoring just 4 goals in 22 games (with just 10 of those being starts) as well as notching just the six during a loan spell at Deportivo last season.

He has, however, found some form over pre-season in Mark Hughes’ side, bagging 4 goals in 2 games – including this emphatic finish:

I’d be concerned if he was signed to be our main man next season, but with Daryl Murphy sold and Mitrovic and Riviere also facing a likely sale, we are in need of striking reinforcements and the Spaniard could be a much needed option, providing a more prolific striker came in.
