Newcastle United legend Nolberto Solano has slammed his former club for not showing enough ambition in the transfer market this summer.
After storming their way back into the Premier League at the first time of asking, Newcastle United were widely expected to be strengthening their squad during the current summer transfer window in order to mount a bid for a finish in the top half of the table.
As it has turned out though, Newcastle’s business in the window has been underwhelming to say the least and there is a real fear among the fans that the current squad, if not improved over the coming days, could be involved in a relegation scrap this term.
Club legend Nolberto Solano is also not too optimistic about the fortunes of Newcastle during the current campaign and has slammed the board for not spending enough money in the transfer window to improve the squad sufficiently.
Solano stated in his column for the Chronicle, “People keep asking me about where Newcastle United will finish this season after returning to the Premier League.
“But in all truth, I think that Newcastle fans will be just happy to stay up because of what has happened this summer. You can feel the frustration and it’s certainly been troublesome for Rafa Benitez in terms of getting players.
“He has great contacts and a great eye for talent but some targets have gone elsewhere. Why? Simply because some players have more ambition and want to see their new club display that type of ambition too.”
