Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has hit back at Jamie Carragher following the Liverpool legend’s claim that the Spaniard is creating negativity at St. James’ Park.
It is fair to state that Newcastle United have not enjoyed the ideal summer following their promotion into the Premier League due to the fact that the club have not been able to sign their top targets and this has led to Rafael Benitez being left very annoyed.
As a result, Benitez has not been shy regarding his subtle criticism of the club hierarchy for failing to sufficiently back him in the transfer market and the Spaniard has also sensationally questioned the quality of the players at his disposal.
Jamie Carragher has not been left impressed with Benitez’s recent comments though and he had recently urged his former Liverpool manager to stop spreading negativity around St. James’ Park with his constant complaints.
Now the 57-year-old has gone on to respond to Carragher and has stated that rather than him spreading a feeling of doom and gloom around Newcastle, it is the results on the pitch which has been agitating the fans.
Benitez said, “If you win, everyone is happy. If you lose, everyone is not happy. If we win, I will be happy. After the game and you have lost, you are not very happy.
“Then you analyse what happened, train with the team, talk with your players. We have the feeling that we will improve.”
While one can feel sorry for Benitez as he has not been handed his top targets, the ex-Real Madrid boss should focus his attention on getting back to winning ways on the pitch with the squad that he has got and the Carabao Cup clash against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night would be a great time to start.
