According to reports from the Chronicle, Newcastle United have rejected loan offers from Italian sides Hellas Verona and Cagliari for Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Mitrovic has proven to be a hugely divisive figure among the Newcastle United fans following his arrival to St. James’ Park from Anderlecht back in the summer of 2015 and although the striker remains popular among the club faithful, he seems to have lost the trust of manager Rafael Benitez.
Mitrovic scored only four goals in the Championship last season and with Benitez actively looking to sign a new striker during the final days of the transfer window, it does look like the Serbian international’s days at Tyneside are numbered.
Even though Mitrovic did score during Newcastle’s 3-2 defeat in the Carabao Cup against Nottingham Forest during the week, the 22-year-old is currently available for a transfer and he has been attracting interest from a number of clubs in Italy.
Now in reports carried out by the Chronicle, it has been claimed that Newcastle have received two loan enquiries for Mitrovic from Serie A duo Hellas Verona and Cagliari but the Magpies have gone on to shoot down both approaches.
Benitez is said to be unwilling to allow Mitrovic to leave until he signs a replacement and it looks like the Premier League side will only be offloading the young striker permanently in the coming days.
