According to reports from the Daily Mirror (as reported by HITC), Newcastle United are plotting a shock move for Leicester City striker Islam Slimani in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Leicester City splashed around £29million to acquire the services of Islam Slimani from Sporting Lisbon at the start of last season but it has to be said that the Algerian striker did not prove to be a good investment for the Foxes.
Slimani managed only 8 goals in 29 appearances for Leicester last season and with the Foxes having invested heavily to sign Kelechi Iheanacho this summer from Manchester City, the 29-year-old is said to have been made available for a transfer by manager Craig Shakespeare.
Now according to reports from the Daily Mirror, Newcastle United have expressed an interest in acquiring the services of Slimani as the Magpies look to strengthen their toothless looking attack during the last few days of the window.
Slimani would surely be a very good addition to Newcastle’s lineup but with Leicester looking to recoup most of the £29million they splashed out on the striker last season, it remains to be seen as to whether the Magpies can afford to sign him on anything other than a loan basis.
