Deadline day drama on Tyneside?

With the transfer window closing tomorrow evening, there appears to be a lot of business for Rafa and NUFC to do, both in and out of the club. Newcastle fans are rightly cautious about dealings over the next few days, with us let down on many deadline days in the past. Andy Carroll’s departure or that bogus helicopter ride for Bryan Ruiz spring to mind. So just what may happen and where do we need to strengthen?

Departures

There has finally been some departures of squad deadwood this week, meaning valuable wages off the wage bill and hopefully more room to bring new faces in. Here are who has left recently and who we can expect to depart:

  • COMPLETE- Siem De Jong – Ajax – anywhere between £2-4m
  • COMPLETE – Riviere – Metz – nominal fee
  • COMPLETE – Hanley – Norwich City (3.5m)
  • Lazaar – loan mooted back to Serie A
  • Haidara – loan moote
  • Colback – left out of Rafa’s plans, Hull and Villa interested
  • Gayle – Bid from Fulham for £15m
  • Krul – Likely to complete move away from NUFC, linked to Benfica
  • Saivet – appears to not be in Rafa’s plans, could return to Ligue 1

The news this morning on Gayle is a bit of a shock after such a good season last year. There are doubts he can deliver at this level though and the fee could be used to bring in the extra quality we need. You would hope though the departure would not be sanctioned until we had a replacement lined up.

Potential arrivals

Let’s look at some of the most recent links for inbound players. Could any of these arrive tomorrow?

  • Origi – NUFC have been credited with an interest and Klopp wants regular action for the Belgian striker, seems unlikely at this stage though.
  • Perez – Appears to be the most likely option should NUFC pursue a Gayle replacement. Wants out at Arsenal and Rafa is clearly a fan.
  • Batshuayi – With Llorente seemingly on his way to Chelsea, could Newcastle pull off this impressive loan signing?
  • Kenedy – A loan deal had been agreed but now looks unlikely unless Chelsea add to their squad and can therefore sanction his exit.
  • Reina – Long held interest and Rafa wants an experienced keeper. A reunion between the pair may be on the cards as Reina appeared to wave goodbye to fans last week but would a place on PSG’s bench be more appealing than move to the North East?
  • Praet – The talented Belgian can play in the number 10 role or right wing but with the asking price at more than £20m, you would expect funds would have to be raised from outgoings to finance this deal. We also face stiff competition from Everton.

There looks set to be many twists and turns over the next few days but let’s hope this window isn’t as disappointing as we fear it is beginning to appear. We need a striker and number 10 as a minimum to give us the best chance of staying up.

Who do you think will leave and who do you want to see arrive?

Mikel Merino on the purchase option that #NUFC has: “We’ll see how the season progresses. I want to grow on and off the pitch.”

Hmmm, could it be he’s not too impressed with our window .

  3. It’s all very commendable this Grenfell match but I can’t help but feel the other people in the UK who have had their lives turned upside down by fire will be sat there asking “what am I getting.”

    Wasn’t it roof running?

Totally agree Georgio. Far more sensible than Eric spreading #fakenews?

I’m glad the transfer window’s shut. All the sensational stuff about Rafa being unhappy, going to leave, budgets etc will just die down. The guy likes it here, he knew what Ashley meant about every last penny etc. He did the best he could with little money in a crazy market place and will just get on with it.

  5. Lucky it is the international break or else Troysta would have to talk about real football and be 150% wrong as usual. #Pards.

Not imaginary, unlike your friends. I just haven’t looked.

  8. I do think Ashley needs to come out again and answer questions as to how much money rafa had to spend.
I understand the reason he wouldn’t divulge during the window, but now it’s over, fans want to know.
When do the club’s financials come out?
He can’t hide anything so he has to be up front. My memory seems to think it around May or June.
What did the last set of figures show?
There’s normally a few on here who are up to date with that kind of shizzle.

  9. Troy – For many years Jabba has said nothing after having pathetic transfer windows only for the club to announce they made record profits the following financial year….

Stuart what fake news has Eric Trump been spouting?

We had a debate yesterday about the price Ashley wanted for the club and I said the debt the club has, plus the price he paid, plus a profit was the reason he sets the asking price so high. Eric either mis read what I said or was completely plastered because he spent two hours arguing my point for me, thinking I’d said something else.

I’ve asked numerous times for him to show me where I’d said what he thought I’d said but he can’t find it. Just keeps saying “you said it, I just can’t be bothered looking.” ??

    Hashtag, Nutcase.

    Hashtag, he loves Pardew.

    Good luck.

Sham – Instead of accepting he’s made a mistake, Eric continues down a path of “can’t be bothered proving you wrong” tactics. It’s quite funny. Yet quite unedifying for poor Eric.

  16. Ashley has loads of questions to answer.
    F’in loads.
I’m open to the position at thus present time despite my absolute justified criticism of him in the past.
But all I see is a Rafa, who is disgruntled, fuelled by his lack of intellect to ask details about how much money he actually had at his disposal, which included the full transfer fee plus the full contract cost for each player. Ashley has made this clear for several years now but I still see people on here quoting £11m net spend.
Work out the transfer fee plus the full contract against those that have gone.
Give me a figure that I’m sure will be different from £11m.
I’ve saI’d all along the figure at rafas disposal will be nearer £20-£30m.
If you take into account a £11m net spend plus wages, I bet it is close to £20m.
Those who left weren’t on big contracts.
Where are people getting these £40-£50m profits ?

My image of you is a newly born chick, where it’s head is heavier than its neck muscles.
It struggles for a few seconds to lift it’s head but Troy, big Chick, pecks on your newly bald napper, knocking you back into your shell.
Don’t worry, even the big chick allows the runt to thrive as long as there’s enough worms.
Eric the worm is offering himself for free bait so I think you are OK for a whole. ?

If I told you I was currently drinking Krug champagne ( I actually prefer Cristal) in a luxury, exclusive house in the Yorkshire Dales would it change your view of me as having a heavy head? Oh and I watch NUFC matches from a box… Cluck, Cluck… 😛

  22. Been trying to work out what cash could of been at Rafa’s disposal but it’s as clear as mud.
We know we sold Sissy for £30m ( yes I know it’s in instalments ) then there is Gini £25m and Thauvin £10m I think, LDJ £1.8m rising to £4m I believe. What ever we got for the others that went and loan fees.
We are paying part of some loan wages too I believe.
We have to factor in agent fees, add on’s and what have you, so god knows what the true figure actually is.
How much do we get in gate receipts ? and merchandising, corporate room hire and so on ? Oh and sponsors. Talking of which have we got our sleeve sponsor sorted yet ?
When all’s sad and done, I refuse to believe we are that poor that we couldn’t of stretched to a signing like say Samaris who we were linked to.
I would of kept LDJ, never got a chance cause of his injuries and looked a clever player to me, may of been a good number 10 when fully fit.

  23. You’re probably right about the figures Kim but Rafa himself confuses me. Why did he spend the bulk of his money on Murphy? £12m for a winger when we had 3 already and desperately needed a LB, a playmaker and a striker. Unless, of course, he, like us, believed there was a lot more money to come . . . .
