Newcastle United attacker Christian Atsu has gone on to state that the spirit within the squad is positive at the moment.
Newcastle United clearly needed to strengthen their squad this summer with a number of signings in order to successfully stave off relegation this season but disappointingly, the Magpies did not bring in any new players to St. James’ Park on deadline day.
Considering the fact that Newcastle fans were promised new arrivals before the summer deadline, they certainly feel betrayed at the moment and it has to be said that the mood surrounding St. James’ Park is not a very happy one.
Many now fear that Newcastle are set for a long and hard campaign ahead and it will be interesting to see if their struggles on the pitch continue.
However, it has to be noted that Newcastle did manage a morale boosting 3-0 victory over West Ham United before the international break and winger Christian Atsu has gone on to reveal that the mood within the squad is a positive one at the moment, amid all the negativity surrounding the club.
Atsu told the Chronicle, “The team spirit is very good. It was a great performance from the team against West Ham. There were three goals, a clean sheet and plenty of determination. It’s great to be back on the winning trail. But we will need to continue this after the international break.”
Speaking about the squad strength, Atsu continued, “Some of us will get a rest and those who are injured will come back to fitness and help the team. We are very confident that those who have not played recently will be back to join the team.”
