Blow for NUFC as exclusive claims Benitez could be set to miss Sunday’s trip to Swansea

Newcastle could be dealt a blow ahead of Sunday’s clash with Swansea, as an exclusive by The Independent reports that Rafa Benitez has missed training all week after recovering from an operation, meaning he could be forced to sit out the trip to Wales.

Benitez had planned to take training yesterday, with a session also planned today, however he is still recovering from an operation he had undergone over the international break to remove an infection.

The Independent claims there are now concerns he will be unable to return to the training ground this week, however is understood to be going ‘everything in his power’ to do so.

He is believed to be ‘eager’ to link up with his players following our opening victory of the season over West Ham, and is said to be ‘adamant’ he will take control at Swansea, however the report states he may have to listen to medical advice.

Rafa hands out several instructions from the sidelines, meaning his presence, experience and tactical know-how would be sorely missed if he was absent on Sunday.

Here’s hoping he continues to recover in time for what promises to be another big game to keep the club on track on the pitch following recent disappointment off it in the transfer market.
