Sky Sports reveal Mike Ashley will hand the NUFC squad a £20m bonus…on one condition

With a lacklustre net-spend of just over £10m this summer, it’s fair to say Mike Ashley has not loosened his pursestrings nearly enough over the past few months, however Sky Sports have revealed that the NUFC owners will donate £20m to the players IF they win the FA Cup this year.

It had been reported recently that the squad had been unhappy with the bonus scheme put forward by the club, however this will offer an added incentive for the players to bring the first piece of silverware to the club since 1955.

If last month’s Carabo Cup effort was anything to go by, i’m not anticipating Ashley having to part with his millions. Benitez made several changes and second tier side Nottingham Forest emerged victorious with a 3-2 extra-time win.

I would love to give the cup a good go and Ashley has certainly dangled the carrot, but I’m not holding my breath!

  1. Do they have that in writing? He has a habit of not coming good on his promises. I’m not sure why he’d do this. You get just £1.8M for winning the FA cup itself + £900k for winning the Semi, a few extra mil for the extended run & ticket sales that result. 2,600,000€ for participating in the group stage It’s not looking like a great business case. No more than £10M I’d say (with admittedly flaky insights) but that still puts Ashley at a loss … which he won’t do, and it’d probably come out of any player funds if it did.
