If recent years are anything to go by, we’re not used to seeing ‘one of our own’ called up to the English national squad, however it has been confirmed in The Chronicle that centre-back Jamaal Lascelles is on Gareth Southgate’s radar, having earned ‘positive reports’ during recent wins over West Ham and Swansea.
The 23-year old has helped us t back to back wins and clean sheets, with his monstrous man of the match display over Swansea on Sunday turning a few heads.
Fantastic play by #NUFC captain Jamaal Lascelles to deny a sure goal for the #Swans, sliding to block Tammy Abraham's shot. #SWANEW #PL ?? pic.twitter.com/VBE2QFQh23

In the fall out from Sunday’s win, The Chronicle have confirmed that Lascelles – who has been capped at every youth level from England U-18 to U-21’s – is ‘on England’s radar’, with Southgate monitoring his progress ahead of a potential senior call up.
Southgate is believed to have watched him in our 3-0 win over West Ham and has received a host of positive reports following his influential performance on Sunday. Interestingly, Southgate was the man who handed him his England U-21 bow, so Lascelles is a player he’s familiar with.
Lascelles is a model professional, capable player and strong character who will be the last person to get carried away by such talk, however it is fair to say that the NUFC skipper must make Sunday’s performance the norm if he is to make the step up to the senior national side.
Oh thank the Lord, England come a calling.
Would you rather start for Rafa or go and waste your time playing out of position with Southgate ?
