Just 12 months ago the Mackems mocked us, with cries of ‘Enjoy Burton away’ as we were relegated to the Championship. Fast forward a year and it’s now our North-East rivals who look in a perilous position, with Sunderland’s season in the second tier going from bad to worse last night thanks to a 5-2 defeat away to Ipswich.
Not only has there been talk of the club potentially facing administration, they have seen their relegation fears deepen this week, with no wins in their last 8 Championship games seeing them slide into the relegation zone.
Ironically, it was former manager Mick McCarthy who helped inflict more pain on the Mackems last night, with his Ipswich side (not known for goals) putting 5 past Simon Grayson’s sorry Sunderland.
Sunderland are taking to the @SkyBetChamp well I see..

Enjoy Burton away they said. If their start to the season is anything to go by, they’ll do well to finish above the Brewers.
What a mess.
