Garth Crooks does NUFC a huge injustice with his comments on our draw with Liverpool

BBC pundit Garth Crooks is at it again, claiming Jurgen Klopp’s men ‘should have smashed Newcastle out of sight’ during Sunday’s game at St James’ Park.

Garth recently warned Newcastle united fans that our ‘bubble would soon burst’ and this comment in his weekly BBC column he hardly paints Sunday’s draw in a great light considering we put in such a gritty display:

“What is wrong with Liverpool?’

“The Reds should have smashed Newcastle out of sight, but instead they limp away from St James’ Park with a point.”

Whilst Liverpool undoubtedly had chances to win the game, we put in a disciplined and dogged performance and were by no means there for the taking to be ‘smashed out of sight’ –  quite a disrespectful way of putting it from Garth after what was a spirited display and hard earned point.

Ironically, we ended up having more shots on targets than Liverpool on Sunday (we had 5 to their 2). I’m by no means suggesting we deserved to win, as a goal never looked likely for us in the second half, but Garth comments do our performance a real injustice for me.

  1. Made some decent comments about Lascelles early on but mostly his comments are about as informed as Paul Merson’s

  2. These ‘pundits’ try and tailor their post match comments to fit with their pre-match predication, to make themselves appear more informed and astute than they are. If he predicted Liverpool to win comfortably….and they didn’t, rather than admit Newcastle played well, he will pluck an excuse out of the sky to use, which is exactly what he has done. Merson does the same.
