Liverpool fans have not held back in their assessment of Georginio Wijnaldum’s display at St James’ Park yesterday, slating the former NUFC midfielder for his ‘invisible’ display – something he was guilty of during away games for Newcastle United!
The Dutchman became our second most expensive signing in the summer of 2015, arriving from PSV for £14.5m. He went on to score 11 goals in the league from midfield during his debut season, but then secured a £25m move to Anfield the following summer, with his goals being unable to save us from relegation.
He was guilty of going missing away from home during his time with us and it seems that curious trend has continued with the Reds, with all of his 17 Premier League goals for Newcastle and Liverpool coming at home.
He was on the fringes of the game yesterday and, I must admit, he was nowhere to be seen in the second half.
Jurgen Klopp has recently praised the development of his all round game, however the Liverpool fans couldn’t disagree more if their response to his performance yesterday is anything to go by.
Here’s what Liverpool fans have said about the former United midfielder following yesterday’s game:
Are you ready for this? Wijnaldum second half:
15 passes
1 shot
0 chance created
0 tackles
0 aerial duels
0 interceptions
0 take-ons?????

Still perplexed as to how other fans actually rate Wijnaldum. Offers next to nothing to the team.

We can't sub off Wijnaldum cos Klopp doesn't know he's on the pitch

Wijnaldum really averaging 25 completed passes per game so far this season. I want to vomit ?

Big Wijnaldum fan but he has to start doing more. There's being subtly effective and then there's just being invisible. Testing my patience.

Klopp is a moron to start Wijnaldum in away games. His contract clearly states that he is deemed to perform in home games. #LFC

I’d love to be able to defend Wijnaldum again. But I’m honestly past anyone in this team who doesn’t contribute enough, each and every match

Even NUFC editor Mark Douglas agreed, claiming it was a very familiar away performance from the midfielder:
Wijnaldum was invisible today. Reminded me of him at #nufc when the team played away.

All sounds a bit familiar, doesn’t it!
