In 2014 he was famously quoted saying he was ‘the best manager in the Premier League’ when in charge of a struggling NUFC, and three years on, John Carver could be set for a surprise return to North-East management – with conference side Gateshead.
Carver was sacked by Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia eight months ago and has been on the look out for his next job ever since – and one close to home has emerged over the past 24 hours.
Neil Aspin left his role with Gateshead just last night, being confirmed as the new Port Vale boss earlier today. This has left the Conference club 15th in the table and without a manager and The Chronicle have since suggested that former NUFC boss John Carver is being lined up to take his place.

Carver is an honest bloke and had been a good servant at NUFC, however this just shows just how his managerial career has gone downhill in recent years, going from assisting the great Sir Bobby to being left jobless after a sacking in Cyrpus.
Nevertheless, we’d wish him all the best with ‘The Heed’ if he does in fact take over at Gateshead.
