Shock news confirms ‘violent’ training ground bust up at NUFC – causing Jonjo Shelvey to break his finger

Some shocking news coming from the club today, with confirmed reports that Jamaal Lascelles and Mo Diame were involved in a training ground fight on Thursday – seeing Jonjo Shelvey break his finger in an attempt to stop the pair trading blows.

As confirmed by The Chronicle today, Lascelles and Diame saw a heated argument turn ugly, seeing Jonjo Shelvey of all people act as peace-maker.

It’s been suggested that the skipper repeatedly called Diame ‘lazy’ during a ‘feisty’ training session at the Benton training base, with Diame’s response to the skipper seeing the pair begin trading blows.

The Chronicle state that the club has confirmed the clash did occur on Thursday, but have chosen not to make any further comment on the matter. Any disciplinary proceedings are yet to be decided upon.

Given Lascelles was handed a six-year deal at the club yesterday, this comes as quite a shameful turn of events – especially when you consider Benitez had recently praising his professionalism and first class attitude this season.

We don’t know exactly what went on, but Benitez won’t be impressed. Lascelles calling Diame out on being ‘lazy’ may be what he needed, but there’s a way of doing it and Jamaal’s method doesn’t sound particularly impressive if these details are to be believed?

Rafa is believed to have spoken to the pair and hopes the situation will now be resolved, however it’s  a little disappointing to see two NUFC players and our captain have come to blows in training.

  1. Not before time Jamaal. Diame never looks like he breaks sweat in games, yet he is a talented player. There are maybe 1 or 2 more in the squad who could do with the ‘Jamaal treatment’.
