Michael Owen predicts Southampton vs Newcastle – revealing an unbelievable fact in the process

The international break is on its way out and we can now begin to build up to Sunday’s game with Southampton – starting with the infamous Michael Owen’s prediction for the long trip to St Mary’s.

Here’s what the former NUFC striker and current ‘pundit’ has had to say when speaking to BetVictor ahead of our game:

“Southampton have failed to score in eight of their last nine PL games at St Mary’s.

“I am surprised they are such short-priced favourites against a Newcastle side who looked well organised and disciplined when getting a point at home to Liverpool last time.”

Score prediction – Southampton 1-1 Newcastle

Firstly, that’s an incredible stat that he mentions there in his first line. Perhaps one of the more insightful lines the ex-England star has mustered since he took up punditry and quite a telling stat from the man who brought us ‘whichever teams scores more goals usually wins’ (he actually said that!).

Now back to his prediction. Looking at his last three predictions, he went for us to draw against Stoke and Brighton and lose to Liverpool and he’s gone for another draw here.

Southampton’s goalscoring form at St Mary’s is clearly an issue and that paired with our tendency to be organised and tough to beat should give us hope of a result on Sunday. That being said, a 0-0 draw could be on the cards if we’re no better going forward than we were at Huddersfield and Brighton.

Do you agree with Michael’s prediction? Would you take a draw as he predicts or should we be going for the win?
