Mikel Merino continues to turn heads following his move to Tyneside in the summer, with the Spanish U-21 international scoring a emphatic goal for his country last night.
The classy midfielder scored one and assisted one in a 3-0 victory over Italy for the U-21’s last month, and last night he was at it again in a 4-1 win over Slovakia, smashing this effort into the roof of the net (with his wrong foot!) to give his side the lead:

We are well aware that Merino is more than capable both on and off the ball in the middle of the park, but these are some positives signs to suggest he has an eye for goal too. It’s worth mentioning that prior to his move to Dortmund, he scored 7 goals in 36 matches in a full season in Spain for Osasuna in 2015/16.
He already looks like a player who has so much to offer, so adding goals to his game really would be the cherry on top of a pretty brilliant looking cake!
