Paul Merson makes ominous prediction ahead of Newcastle vs Bournemouth

After finally predicting his first NUFC win of the season last week, Paul Merson is backing us once again this weekend, predicting we’ll see of Bournemouth 2-1 at St James’ Park on Saturday – despite admitting his ‘disappointed’ he was with our performance on Monday night.

As you may know, the Sky Sports pundit failed to give us a single in our opening 9 games, but for the first time this season, he had us down to win at Burnley earlier in the week.

Quite typically, it was a game we went on to lose, making his tip for us to win once again all the more worrying. Results really do tend to be the total opposite of what he predicts!

Here’s what he had to say during his weekly Premier League predictions on Sky Sports:

“I was really disappointed with Newcastle on Monday night (in their 1-0 loss at Burnley on) if I’m being honest – the only plan they looked like having was Jonjo Shelvey.

“It was a game you thought, ‘go and try and win here and kick on,’ but it did not look good to me.

“Bournemouth got a good result at Stoke, but I am going to go 2-1 to Newcastle.”

Are you feeling ok Paul?! Another win he reckons!

In fairness, he has every right to have been unimpressed by us on Monday, and he is right in what he says about Jonjo Shelvey being our only threat that night. Aside from some of his inventive passes and the odd Atsu burst, we really did show a distinct lack of attacking threat.

Hopefully he gets his predictions right this time, but given so many of our games have gone completely against what he predicted, I’m not holding my breath!
