NUFC scouts understood to have watched duo in Champions League action last week

According to reports in Turkey, Newcastle had scouts present in Besiktas’ 1-1 draw with Monaco in the Champions League last week, and despite being there to watch Cenk Tosun and Oguzhan Ozyakup, they were also left impressed by their team-mate, Tolgay Arslan.

The report claims scouts from both Newcastle and Crystal Palace had scouts watching Besiktas striker Tosun and midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup but claim we ended up impressed by Arslan – the 27-year old midfielder who was not initially on their radar.

Interestingly, whilst we knew about our interest in Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun, scouts’ presence to also watch midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup is news to us.

(Oguzhan Ozyakup)

The 25-year old Besiktas man is a former Arsenal youngster and has been capped 30 times at international level for Turkey.

This all comes from Turkish paper Hurriyet, who claim NUFC scouts will continue to monitor Tosun and Ozyakup, but also Arslan, after being left particularly impressed by the latter last week.

(Tolgay Arslan)

Back to Tolgay Arslan, the 27-year-old is a versatile midfielder, being able to play all across the midfield, and has previously played for Hamburg – also representing Germany at U-21 level.

Striker Cenk Tosun was always one to watch ahead of the January window, but he may not be the only Besiktas player we’re eyeing, with our alleged interest in Ozyakup and Arslan having emerged – if Turkish reports are to believed that is!

  1. Niether Gayle- Perez-Mitrovich-or Joselu are worth a ****, this club needs reliable goal-scorers and I can also think of a few non strikers who are not up to par at this club.
Sorry but money has to be spent, it’s unfair on Rafa to criticize him for poor anything, he does the best he can with what he’s got .
It’s amazing that considering the level of talent at the club, they are YET not fighting relegation, though that will happen during the latter stages of the season, when we face the better clubs.
Hopefully we can take a leaf outta Monaco’s book and discover equally decent
young up and coming players and what better league to look for them than France.
In which case why are we looking at Turkish players, instead of France, The Balkans-Portugal and Spain and look at the quality that has recently emerged from Belgium, not to forget The Championship and lower league clubs.
This is a time we desperately need both Rafas. data base on players and our present scouts to come through with emerging talent, being even though the club may be taken over by new ownership, it is essential to have a youth system we can draw from take a look at how many of the top EPL clubs have as many players on loan throughout the various leagues, unfair? sure but essential if you want success.
Let Monaco be the model, yeah even Ashley knew that, he just sold his new recruits too fast and the scouting system was flawed, which with Rafa. now at he helm, could result in a fairly successful club, not that we will ever have he riches to spend like the two Manchesters or the big London clubs, but a top six to eighth place PL side.
