Some transfer gossip arriving from Spain today, with claims that Rafa Benitez has identified Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen as a January target, with the Dutch international looking for a move after struggling for game time with the Catalan giants.
With Rafa having pursued Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina for the majority of the summer window, it seems perfectly plausible that he might move again for one in January – and Spanish outlet El Gol Digital claim he has identified Barcelona’s Jasper Cillessen as an ideal target.
Last summer, the 28-year old stopper signed a 5-year deal with Barcelona, joining from Ajax in a deal worth £15m.
He has endured a difficult time in Spain however, making just ONE league appearance for them since arriving at the club last August.

The report claims Cillessen is desperate to move elsewhere for game time, making the switch to Tyneside potentially appealing to the former Ajax man.
It goes without saying that Newcastle should be targeting attacking flair and a proven goalscorer before a goalkeeper in January, but with Benitez clearly keen to add another to his ranks to compete with Rob Elliot, Cillessen could be a viable option.
