Benitez speaks out about Aleksandar Mitrovic following weekend rumours of a January exit

Several sides have been linked with a move for NUFC outcast Aleksandar Mitrovic over the weekend, however Rafa Benitez has stated that if he can train hard and ‘make the most’ of any opportunity he might get, then he will handed his chance to impress in the Premier league once again.

The Serbian striker scored yet again for his country on Friday, but was linked with a move away from Tyneside over the weekend, with The Chronicle confirming interest from China and the Championship, with Brighton, Southampton and former club Anderlecht also credited with an interest.

He hasn’t started a game in the league all season and was an unused substitute when we were crying our for him against BourMemouth last time out, but Raf Benitez has explained what he needs to do to find a way back into his plans at NUFC:

“It’s the same for everyone – the players who aren’t playing at the moment have to carry on training and training hard, and then if they get an opportunity, make the most of it.

“Dwight Gayle was working hard. He was unlucky to get his goal disallowed (against Bournemouth), and this was it.”

When asked if Mitrovic could fit into the 4-4-2 system Benitez played against Bournemouth last time out, Rafa said: “Why not?”.

According to The Chronicle, Mitrovic WILL be allowed to leave if the club can recruit a new striker in the January window, however he will only be sold if an acceptable offer arrives and a replacement is found prior to him departing.

His time at Newcastle United looks to be coming to an end, but for all Mitrovic fans, Rafa has at least offered him a potential way back into the team – for now at least..
