Garth Crooks sends warning to NUFC fans following some bold comments about Rafa Benitez

BBC pundit Garth Crooks stands by his recent comments that Newcastle could one day become title contenders under Rafa Benitez ‘with the right resources’, but has warned NUFC fans that ‘the writing is on the wall’ if Benitez is not handed funds to strengthen his squad in January.

Back in October, Crooks said: “Rafa can win it (Premier League) with the right resources there, I think that highly of him- he can win the title (at Newcastle) with the right resources.”.

He clearly feels the same way, but with 5 defeats in our last six and Benitez cutting a frustrating figure in the post-match interview following Saturday’s defeat, he’s warned the Toon Army that things could get much worse if the squad isn’t improved in January:

“I was not in the least bit surprised that Magpies boss Rafa Benitez had a face like thunder after the game and his responses were so clipped.

“The writing is on the wall if additions to the squad are not found in January. These Newcastle hopefuls need more support and Benitez knows it.”

‘The writing is on the wall’. Is this regarding our possible relegation or us losing an increasingly frustrated Rafa Benitez? Or both?!

Garth then justified his comments about Rafa Benitez back in October, stating that he stands by his belief that the Spaniard could propel NUFC into one of the top English sides if he was given the right backing:

“I was almost laughed out of BBC’s Final Score studio when I insisted that, given the right resources, Benitez could turn Newcastle into title contenders. Why the comment was greeted with such bewilderment, I have no idea.

“Anyone who knows anything about football should know that Benitez has done it before at Valencia.

“If he can stop football giants like Barcelona and Real Madrid from winning the title, he can certainly do it against both Manchester clubs.”

Do you agree with Garth?

Is the writing really on the wall for this NUFC squad without January additions?
