Now this one is going to be met with a real mixture of responses, but quite a few Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to criticise fellow supporters for their ‘sarcastic cheers’ and booing of Mo Diame as he was substituted during yesterday’s defeat to Everton.
I was at the game, and I can confirm that Diame really did have a stinker, but I’m not sure this is the answer. Don’t get me wrong, I was quite relieved to see his number go up as he’d offered nothing all game, but is this really how we should be handling one of our own players whose desperately struggling for form?
Here’s what a few fans and NUFC accounts have had to say about the matter on twitter.
I’m not a Diame fan but some of our fans tonight were an absolute embarrassment… we should never be sarcastically cheering one of our players leaving the field.
Poor.

That was an overly large cheer for diame that mind

Diame had another shocker tonight, but I don't condone the whole 'sarcastic cheer' when his number went up and he was subbed off..
Reckon that'll do him any good after a stinker like that? Probably not.
It may he hard right now, but take Rafa's advice and support YOUR team..

Ok..but he is, and that's Rafa's decision. And Rafa has been pleading with fans to get behind OUR team. You don't need to clap him off, but don't boo or mock him sarcastically ffs. From his own 'supporters' too? Embarrassing for me.

Even an Everton fan has been in touch with his take on the matter from last night’s game, having the following to say on the crowds reaction to Diame’s substitution – stating that he’s got no time for this sort of stuff, even if he was awful:
“The boos surrounding Diame when he came off said more than I ever could. He was awful but I’ve got no time for that personally and don’t think it’s ever justifiable.”
Let us know your thoughts folks! Were fans right to mock Diame as he left the pitch?
We pay good money to watch a so call high standard of football I get more commitment and energy off 8 year olds on a sat morning everyone’s entitled to voice there opinion he was woeful
