Ruthless Rafa set to ‘cash in’ on NUFC duo in a bid to raise funds for crucial January signings – Reports

According to a recent piece in the Chronicle, Rafa Benitez will look to cash in on both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba in January – stating that the club have been ‘inundated’ with offers for Serbian striker ahead of his likely sale next month.

The report states that Benitez is ‘keen to find out the scale of his budget for the January window’, and with fears that his transfer kitty could be limited given Mike Ashley is still at the helm at NUFC, he could be keen to raise extra funds from player sales – and it seems Mbemba and Mitrovic will be the first to be sacrificed.

Here’s the snippet from the Chronicle’s piece on the pair’s potential sale:

“United will attempt to cash in on both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba in January although so far and have been inundated with enquiries about the Serbia striker.

“There is interest from the Championship and his former club Partizan Belgrade although Newcastle would prefer to sell him rather than loan him, which is where the majority of the interest has come from so far. Southampton, Brighton and Crystal Palace have all been linked – although whether United would sell to a direct rival at the bottom of the Premier League is unclear.”

This comes as no surprise really, although interest to see we’ve been ‘inundated with offers’ for Mitrovic. The Serbian has spent more time on the bench or out of the squad entirely than he has playing football on the pitch this season. In a period where we’ve sorely lacked goals up front, it shows just how little Rafa rates/trusts him.
Mbemba has featured on 8 occasions this season and has started several games at left-back (doing a decent job too!), however he’s another player that Rafa clearly has serious reservations over. Benitez is famous for his specific and detailed tactic plans and I get the feeling the pair struggle to follow them.

As our squad goes, they’re two of our more talent players so you have to think it’s down to mentality and attitude more than it is ability.

You’d think the pair could return around £20m if sold, and although many would be sad to see them go, that money could go along way towards keeping us up.

Also expect the likes of Colback, Saivet, Gamez, Darlow and Diame to leave if replacements were found and acceptable offers arrived.

  1. 2 kids that should be 1st team players, and 2 of a small group that would actually fetch any money, so we’re keeping the rubbish in the starting 11 that no club would buy and selling the ones that should be on the pitch, when the money we will get from the sales will only buy the same level of player, my season tickets are in real threat, am puzzled
