Some bold claims in an exclusive from ESPN, who claim that Newcastle are readying a move for Watford striker Troy Deeney, with the story stating that the Hornets captain is a ‘top target’ of Rafa Benitez’s this month.
A we know, we are in dire need of some firepower up top and the story from ESPN suggests that we have already asked about Deeney’s availability ahead of a potential bid.
The story states that this all comes from ‘sources close to the club’, with them also stating that Benitez has made striking reinforcements his main priority during this month’s crucial transfer window.
Troy Deeney is #nufc's top target this month, according to ESPN. Here's the link. https://t.co/QXuA5tcRlW

The 29-year old has failed to nail down a regular place in Marco Silva’s side following the £18.5m signing of Andre Gray over the summer.
I suspect he may be available, but whether this new transfer link is likely or even true is open for debate. He’s nearing 30 and is a player Watford rejected a £20m bid for last summer – suggesting he probably won’t come all that cheap.
ESPN state that Benitez is ‘an admirer’ of Deeney, allegedly seeing him as someone who will ‘add goals and guile’ to his team for the second half of the season.
Let us know your thoughts. If true, would you take him at NUFC folks?
He’s a very good player, and any doubters should just pop down to vicarage Road and have a look.
The sort of players who makes the opposition know they are in a game.
Watford are a much, much better side when he plays…
