According to Italian reports, Rafa Benitez is preparing an ambitious move for Napoli’s Pepe Reina as he looks to make one last attempt to be reunited with the former Liverpool stopper.
Benitez’s interest in signing the 35-year-old was clear throughout the summer, however Reina decided to remain in Italy despite entering the final year of his contract.
He’s yet to sign a new deal with the Serie A leaders, and Tuttosport have suggested today that Benitez is preparing to make a fresh bid in an attempt to lure his compatriot back to England.
It's the same link every season, which pulls on the personal link between manager and player and becomes a little bit more believable every season due to increasing age. Still, not happening for me.

Potential good signings for NUFC?
He’d be an outstanding signing in the circumstances. He’s a leader and a great character, a player with vast experience and still a very good goalkeeper. His distribution is second to none and someone Benitez would no doubt he desperate to have, but I just can’t see it happening.
Likely to happen?
In all honesty, this looked a long shot over the summer and even more unlikely now. He’s currently Napoli’s number one and even though he is out of contract over the summer, I don’t see why he’d leave (or why they’d let him go) the Serie A league leaders for a side battling relegation in the Premier League – even if he has a close relationship with Rafa Benitez.
