Ex-midfielder Emre reveals why NUFC target Cenk Tosun may have made a mistake joining Everton

Former NUFC midfielder Emre Belozoglu has sent a warning to Turkish compatriot and ex-NUFC striker target Cenk Tosun, saying that he is unfortunate to be joining Everton while Sam Allardyce is in charge at the club.

Emre played under Big Sam during his spell on Tyneside between 2005-2008, however he has slated the former NUFC manager’s style,  stating that he lets his striker feel ‘alone’ on the pitch and could prove to be Tosun’s ‘biggest misfortune’ following his big move to England.

Speaking to Tivibu Spor, here’s what Emre had to say about Tosun – the man NUFC had been heavily linked with prior to his £27m move to Everton – and his former manager Sam Allardyce:

“I’m really happy for Cenk Tosun. I feel it’s easier for Turkish players to go play abroad now than it was in our time,”

“Cenk is really professional. He doesn’t see himself better or worse from what he is. He just wants to constantly improve himself.

“The football in England is physical, but Cenk Tosun’s finishing is top class. His biggest misfortune, I would say, is Sam Allardyce, who was my coach at Newcastle United.

“Allardyce lets his striker feel alone on pitch and his system can’t really provide for his team’s striker.”

Emre is clearly a big fan of Tosun, praising Tosun’s finishing and claiming he is a striker that ‘wants to constantly improve himself’, however he does fear that Sam Allardyce’s system could be a problem for him.

It’s hard to disagree with him when you see this stat. They’ve had just FOUR shots on target in their last five games.

Emre – who still plays in the Turkish league aged 37 – clearly thinks he’s a top player and a great finisher, but it’s hard to score if you aren’t given the chances.

It will be interesting to see how Everton’s £27m will get on, especially after we held long-term interest in the former Besiktas man.
