NUFC offered the chance to sign Borussia Dortmund forward – Benitez now ‘considering’ a move

The Daily Mail report that former Chelsea and current Borussia Dortmund forward Andre Schurrle has been offered to a host of Premier League clubs – with ourselves and Stoke now said to be considering a move.

The story claims that Dortmund are prepared to pay HALF of his £150,000 wage packet in any deal, with the German international looking set to be loaned out after struggling for game time with in the Bundesliga this season.

The 27-year-old can operate out wide of up top and does have some Premier League experience after spending 18 months at Chelsea – with him netting 14 times in 65 appearances with the Blues. He has two assists in just 6 Bundesliga appearances this season.

It’s a deal that could make a lot of sense for us, however the report does state that Dortmund prefer to do an 18-month loan deal – something we and he would probably not commit to due to uncertainty as to what league we’ll be playing in next season. Even if Dortmund agreed to pay half of his wages, we’d certainly not want to commit to paying him £75,000 a week if we were to be a Championship side once again come the summer!

We shall see. Benitez will have his fingers in several pies this week and Schurrle may be worth a look if a suitable deal can be agreed upon. He’s got decent pace, an eye for goal and is someone who can put in a shift from what I remember of him during his time at Chelsea.

Here’s him in action for Dortmund:
