Sky Sports’ Pete Graves has revealed that the fee involved for the striker currently in talks over a ‘club record’ deal with Newcastle is believed to be £20m – however he admits that the club are ‘determined’ to keep the striker’s identity quiet until the deal is done to avoid added competition.
An intriguing update from the Sky reporter, who clearly understands NUFC fans’ eagerness to find out just who this mystery striker is, but stresses just why the club are so keen to keep his name under wraps. A refreshing approach from the club and something that will no doubt improve our chances of getting a deal done.
All #nufc fans want to know the identity of this striker target, but it's a sensitive situation. Told the fee is 20m, but club determined to keep it quiet till it's done, to avoid added competition. M/W awaiting Kenedy announcement. Straight loan.

The alleged £20m fee involved is also an interesting one, highlighting that Ashley may mean business in the closing stages of the transfer window. It’s easy to be cynical and wonder if this is actually the case, but perhaps he is bricking it at the prospect of relegation?
After all, it’d mean him losing his biggest asset (Rafa) and hundreds of millions, with the value of NUFC likely to half if we were to go down.
Now to the striker in question. £20m can’t buy you what it used to, however you’d like to think this is a pretty impressive deal we have lined up when we’re talking about that sort of fee.
CLICK HERE to see the 10 strikers we think may just be behind this mystery bid (but ignore Kevin Gameiro and Moussa Dembele, whose potential moves to NUFC have since been played down by George Caulkin today).
With the alleged £20m price-tag involved, is there anyone from our list of 10 strikers who you think it might be?
