Two strikers ruled out of being the mystery ‘club record’ forward in talks with NUFC

After yesterday’s exciting news, with claims from that Chronicle that we were ‘in talks’ with a striker that would see us break our club transfer record, The Times’ reliable North-East reporter George Caulkin has ruled out two names put to him by NUFC fans today – Kevin Gameiro and Moussa Dembele.

A story in the Daily Express late last night claimed that it was in fact Atleitco Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro that was the mystery striker in talks with the club ahead of a potential club record deal, however George had this to say on Twitter today to a fan asking if that rumours were true:

In fairness, was Mike Ashley really going to pay upwards of £17m for a man who turns 31 in May?

The to Moussa Dembele. The Celtic striker has been unsettled in Scotland after seeing his name linked with an £18m move to the Premier League.

He seemed to fit the bill, being a talented young striker with 32 goals to his name last season, however George also played that one down when quizzed by another Newcastle fan on Twitter this morning:

Incase you’re wondering, George Caulkin is one of the most trusted sources when it comes to all things Newcastle United, with him also being the man who spoke to Amanda Staveley last week in her first big interview since launching a bid for NUFC.

Interestingly, George admitted that he does not know who the mystery striker is, however he claims to have been reliably informed that it is NOT Kevin Gameiro or Moussa Dembele.

Who do you think it is folks?!

  1. I would of thought it was Deeney but since Watford now have a new manager i doubt it .I reckon the new manager would want to see him play before deciding too sell or not.My money is now on it being Bas Dorst.
