A Brighton fan’s interesting reaction after Sky Sports confirm Aleksandar Mitrovic bid

I spoke to a Brighton season-ticket holder last night following the breaking news from Sky that they had submitted an official bid for the Serbian striker. His first words to me were ‘Please, please, please tell me we aren’t signing Mitrovic!’.

It’s since been revealed by the Chronicle that their offer was rejected, with it falling way below our £15m asking price. His reaction, “thank god for that!”.

As you may have gathered, he was not keen on the prospect of signing the 23-year-old forward and gave me an interesting explanation as to why this was the case when I asked him.

Here’s what he said:

“I’ve not seen a great deal of him, but what I can say from what I’ve seen is this. In the right mental frame of mind when he’s pumped and with the right service, he can be a real handful. However, he is so unpredictable and it would be too much of a risk for us to go after him, especially for the rumoured sum of money!

“When thinking about survival you think of having the right characters in the dressing room and I feel this would be one of the major issues with signing him. He’s clearly a strong personality and him potentially proving detrimental to the environment of the dressing room could make him a nightmare for Chris Hughton to accommodate.

An interesting response, and one that raises a few really valid points.

His perspective on the potential deal is an intriguing one. He clearly feels like giving us big money for Mitrovic could then fund our big new striker who could then keep us up (and even send Brighton down in return).

Aside from all of that, he doesn’t seem to rate Mitrovic and clearly has big reservations over his temperament and how he’d fit into Brighton’s side.

We shall see if they up their offer – yesterday’s bid clearly fell way short of NUFC’s £15m valuation, mind..
