So, at 12pm today it was confirmed that we were in advanced talks to sign Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge on loan until the end of the season. Fast forward just two hours and the man who was expected to travel to Tyneside this lunchtime is now set fo a move to West Brom instead.
Not only do we now look set to miss out on a striker who would’ve been capable of firing us to safety (if he stayed fit), but we’ve missed out on him to a relegation rival and Alan Pardew of all people..
We know we’ve went massively downhill under Ashely’s ownership, but moments like this confirm just what a sorry state he’s put us in. Being from Birmingham, Sturridge’s decision may be loosely based on geographical reasons, but still..
Here’s some reactions from NUFC fans following this afternoon’s frustrating news:
We’ve been rejected by Daniel Sturridge for West Brom and Alan Pardew, utter embarrassment.

Is there a club that are less competent than Mike Ashley’s Newcastle in the transfer market? Probably not…

The sad thing is I am not even surprised anymore

It sounds mad saying it out loud but WBA under Pardew is a more attractive option than Newcastle United under Benitez! ?
I. NEED. A. DRINK! ?

Newcastle will not break their transfer record, cannot compete with West Brom(!) for loan deals.
This is just another January with Mike Ashley at the helm.

Southampton looking at £30m Promes
West Brom looking at Sturridge & Deeeney
Brighton signing £14m striker (& Ulloa)
Stoke agree £15m fee for N'Diaye
All below us in the league but all taking the threat of relegation seriously.
Ashley deserves another relegation. We don't..

Other teams around us doing business as we continue to stand still. It's not acceptable. Rafa, the players and the fans being let down again and again. What's the point man. #nufc

Like the summer, like the takeover talks and likes this deal for Sturridge, it’s the hope that kills you.
Sigh..
I don’t think it is embarrassing to lose out on Sturridge, it’s his choice to reject us for a team that’s just down the road from his birth town. To me looks like he would rather take his career backwards and get pardewed hope he keeps drawing his sick pay ?????

It’s his loss gone to a mediocre team and clueless manager, can’t see how he will play regular football there, it’s not like there short of strikers.

Wonder how much of this saga was as a result of press coverage, if we wanted Sturridge and had reach agreement with Liverpool etc surely the famous MA helicopter should have been on standby to get him north.
Woops forgot that’s only used for outgoing transfers.
Pards is certainly getting his own back on Ashley and NUFC fans again
