Joey Barton names the striker he’d urge NUFC to look at before tomorrow night’s 11pm deadline

Speaking on TalkSPORT about Newcastle’s desperate hunt for a new striker, former Mag Joey Barton has urged the club to make a loan move for Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, believing the 21-year-old will score goals in the Premier League if he’s given a consistent run.

As we know, the situation at St James’ is looking unbearably bleak at present, with just 36 hours to sign a much needed new striker after deals for Nicolai Jorgensen and Daniel Sturridge ended in defeat yesterday.

Joey Barton has had his say on the matter, with him saying the following during an an appearance on TalkSPORT when asked who he thought Newcastle could and should look at in the final few days of the January window:

“I like Iheanacho,”

“I think he’s a young kids who needs games. I think if he gets games, he’ll score goals.

“He just needs a consistent run.”

Whether we can pull this deal off with time running out is the big question, however I totally agree with Barton on this one.

Since making a £25m move from Man City over the summer, Iheanacho has started just two Premier League games, but he’s proven he can score when given the chance – bagging four in his last two games for the Foxes.

Teamtalk and the Mirror have credited us with an interest in the Nigerian over the last 48 hours, however it remains to be seen if Claude Puel would actually loan him out for the remainder of the season.
