Agent of former NUFC target hints that his move to Tyneside could be back on over the summer

The agent of January target Nicolai Jorgensen has admitted that Feyenoord striker could yet make a summer move to Newcastle United, stating we ‘did a lot’ to make it happen last month but could yet ‘find a solution’ to sign him in the summer.

As we know, bids of £13m and £15m were submitted for the Danish international in the latter stages of the January window, however it seems we were never prepared to meet Feyenoord’s £20m valuation.

Instead we turned to a loan deal for Leicester City striker Islam Slimani on deadline day, however it’s been suggested since that our interest in Jorgensen is far from over.

Here’s what the 27-year-old’s agent Mikkel Nissen has had to say on our interest in the striker and the possibility of him moving on in the summer:

“Newcastle would really like him and did a lot to make it happen, but Jorgensen is at Feyenoord until summer.

“I can confirm that Newcastle specifically wanted to have him, and did a lot to make it successful.

“They (Feyenoord) just did not want to sell him in this transfer window and will first look at it this summer.

“But now he’s ready to take the next step. It’s always a balance to find the right time to go on, but I think we’ll find a solution this summer. Feyenoord will have also had time to look for a replacement.”

It certainly sounds like he’ll be pushing for a move in the summer, with lots of talk from his agent that he’s ready to take ‘the next step’ in his career, however it remains to be seen whether that’ll be with Newcastle United.

A) Will we be in the Premier League and in a position to sign such a player? B) Will we even pay the asking price? (It didn’t look like we were prepared to last month!) C) Will we have moved on to other targets? Could Slimani could join if he impresses?

One to watch in the summer if we stay up, but for now, I am happier to have Slimani than an unproven Dutch League striker (who’d take time to settle) until the end of the season..
