North East journalist makes interesting admission on Jonjo Shelvey’s injury status for Liverpool

Some potentially positive injury news regarding Jonjo Shelvey’s knee problem, with the Mail’s Craig Hope revealing that the NUFC midfielder could yet be fit to face Liverpool on Saturday – despite also having painkilling injections in his groin on last weekend.

Interestingly, the ‘swelling’ and injury reported by the club was regarding his knee, but Hope explains here that he has also been receiving painkilling injections in his groin – something he was ‘feeling’ late on in the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.

This perhaps explains why he was struggling to track back for both goals at the weekend (which he’s been heavily criticised for since..)

The North-East correspondent for the Daily Mail admits that there is a chance he could be missing for a long period, however stresses that there’s a chance it’s just bad swelling with no ‘serious damage’.

The club confirmed earlier this week that Shelvey was to learn his fate after a series of scans later this week, so let’s hope they come back positive.

This does make us believe that his injury may not be as bad as initially feared, however, with it now emerging that he has a chance of playing in Saturday’s tough trip to Anfield.
