Joey Barton reveals ‘what he’s heard’ about Amanda Staveley’s latest attempt to buy NUFC

Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Joey Barton has claimed that Amanda Staveley’s takeover of NUFC is ‘still happening’, stating that ‘it’ll get done’ based on what he’s been told recently.

Staveley’s understood to have tabled three separate offers to Ashley last year, however it became apparent that non were deemed remotely acceptable by the NUFC owner – hence why he abruptly called talks off midway through January this year.

Since then Staveley has insisted that she is very much still interested in taking over at the club, however any talk of a takeover has died down, with the latest TV deal and the small matter of our Premier League status having a huge impact on any future bid that may be submitted by her party.

Hope of a Staveley takeover has diminished amongst most NUFC fans, however ex-midfielder Joey Barton thinks otherwise, stating today that he’s heard it’s still happening:

“I’ve heard that’s still happening and that it’s still rumbling on. I think it’ll get done.”

It’s nice to hear, with us all holding onto that ounce of hope that this will be Ashley’s last season at the club, however I do struggle to understand why someone like Barton would be in the know on such a huge topic on Tyneside.

Do you think it’ll still get done?
