Newcastle ‘alerted’ by the availability of Manchester Utd outcast – summer move looks imminent

The Chronicle have confirmed that Rafa Benitez has been alerted by claims this week that Luke Shaw will be leaving Manchester United this summer – the left-back the Spaniard made attempts to sign on loan in January.

Paul Dummett’s form at left-back may make many wonder why Rafa would want to sign a first-team left-back this summer, however the Chronicle have suggested that Benitez believes he could become a centre-back in time.

With this in mind, a new left-back would make a lot of sense, especially a talented one like Luke Shaw who will be desperate for a move to resurrect his career after a fallout with Jose Mourinho. He was withdrawn at half-time against Brighton over the weekend and publicly criticised, so that could be the final straw for him at Old Trafford.

Man Utd were said to be demanding £20m for the England international in January, however it wouldn’t surprise me to see us explore a loan move with an option to buy if we did stay up (and keep Benitez at the club) this summer.

Let us know your thoughts folks – is Shaw a realistic target and a player you’d like to see us sign this summer?
