“We’ve made a decision” – Agent hints at summer move for winger heavily linked to NUFC

The agent of heavily linked Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues has admitted that they have came to a decision following several ‘transfer offers’ for the 27-year-old, with them deciding to evaluate a potential summer move at the end of the season.

Rodrigues is a player who was mildly linked with a move to St James’ Park both last summer and in January, however those links have become more concrete and more regular over the past few weeks.

It’s since emerged that Newcastle scouts have made several trips to Turkey to watch him in action for Galatasaray (including their 0-0 draw with Fenerbahce last week) , with several stories from easter Europe claiming that we actually lodged unsuccessful bids of £6m and £7m over the past two transfer windows.

So, an interest in the Cape Verde international seems to exist, however his sudden surge to form (5 goals and 6 assists in his last 10) doesn’t look likely to help our cause ahead of a potential summer bid.

Turkish reports have even suggested that he’s now been valued at a €30m – a ridiculous fee for a player unproven in any top league who’s edging towards his 30’s.

Here’s what his agent Ceylan Caliskan has had to say this week:

“We’ve made a decision with Garry over transfer offers.

We’ll only evaluate them at the end of the season.”

I’d expect to see us make another move to sign him in the summer (with our extensive scouting suggesting our interest is genuine), however it’s hard to see a deal being struck if our last offer was £7m and their new asking price is over treble that.

For those who are unfamiliar with the pacey wide man, here’s some clips of him in action recently:
