Surprise NUFC star being ‘monitored’ for England call-up – and it’s NOT Lascelles or Shelvey

The Chronicle have confirmed that Jonjo Shelvey and Jamaal Lascelles are still under consideration by those at England despite their recent snub,  however they’ve revealed today that Paul Dummett is now also on Gareth Southgate’s radar.

The left-back has appeared twice for Wales, making some wonder if he’d even be eligible for England, however those caps were not in competitive fixtures, meaning the Geordie defender could yet represent the Three-Lions.

According o Lee Ryder, Dummett has caught Southgate’s eye after some impressive performances in the Premier League in recent months.

Danny Rose is the only recognised left-back in the current squad due to Ryan Bertrand’s withdrawal, so there may be hope yet for Dummett’s potential international career – despite him recently choosing to focus on club matters above Wales duties.

It’s also insisted that Shelvey and Lascelles are STILL in England’s thoughts despite their failure to be called up to the latest squad, with the Chronicle stating that ‘England will make further checks on both players when the Premier League resumes after the latest batch of internationals’.

This is some well earned appreciation for Paul Dummett, however, an honest player who finally seems to be getting the recognition he deserves after several outstanding displays at left-back since the turn of the year.

  1. He was one of the most underrated players in Newcastle but finally getting the credit he deserves. I’ve always liked him, offensive he’s not the greatest but defensive wise he’s very impressive and could mark a world class player out of a game, id rather my full backs be good defenders and there’s not many better than him.
