Bad news for NUFC fans as Islam Slimani looks like he’ll be out for a while yet

Islam Slimani has been unable to play for Algeria during the international break so far and is rated as a  doubt for Saturday’s game with Huddersfield – meaning we may not see him play until Arsenal at home on April 15th.

The Chronicle claim he has an ‘outside chance’ of making the bench on Saturday, but I just can’t see him being involved.

He was pictured training on his own in Spain, he failed to feature in the Antwerp friendly and has been absent for both of Algeria’s games during the international break (despite travelling), so it seems so unlikely that Rafa would risk him at this stage.

If this is to be the case, and he did miss Saturday’s game, the next game we can hope to see him feature in will be Arsenal at home on April 15th, with him being ineligible to play against parent club Leicester a week on Saturday (7th April) even if he was fit.

Hopefully he can resume training with the first-team on his return from Algeria, giving him a chance of a late sub appearance on Saturday, however Arsenal at home in almost 3 weeks time is looking much more likely.

A frustrating one for us fans to take, but let’s just hope Dwight Gayle can keep up the good work,
