According to Turkish Football, Newcastle have made an enquiry to sign Oguzhan Ozyakup – the Besiktas midfielder who is set to be available on a free this summer.
The creative midfielder started his career at Arsenal but left for Besiktas back in 2012, having since gone on to bag 27 goals and 48 assists in 213 games for the Black Eagles.
The Turkish giants appear to be resigned to losing him this summer after failing to tie him down to a new contract, and whilst Everton were deemed to be in pole position to sign him, reports today now claim we have entered the fray.
Here’s a snippet from Turkish Football, stating we have scouted the 25-year-old all season and have made contact with his representatives over a potential summer move:
‘Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup.
‘A source close to Besiktas revealed that the Magpies have been scouting the Turkey international throughout the season and made an enquiry with to his representatives over a summer move.’

With Tosun linked for several months prior to his move to Everton and us also credited with an interest in Tolgay Arslan recently, it seems NUFC scouts have been busy watching Besiktas over the past year.
Whether any deal for Ozyakup materialises remains to be seen, but based on this clip below there won’t be a lack of interest this summer if he’s available on a free!
