It was reported that Islam Slimani would miss Algeria’s friendly with Iran today, however ‘breaking news’ from DZ Football now claim the striker could start the game after recovering from injury ‘quicker than first expected’.
The 29-year-old sat out of their 4-1 win over Tanzania last Thursday, and the signals from their manager were that he’d miss out once again for today’s friendly with Iran in Austria.
This had made me almost certain that Saturday’s visit of Huddersfield would also come to soon for him, however these big claims coming from ‘DZ Football’ (who specialise in coverage of all things Algeria) will give Benitez a big boost – provided he does play and avoid injury during any appearance for his national side today that is.

“Islam Slimani recovering sooner than first thought and is a possibility to start tomorrow’s match vs Iran.”
One to watch today folks – let’s just hope he is ready to return and isn’t risked unnecessarily.
Hopefully he can play some part (providing he’s ready) and return to Tyneside injury free and with a little bit of game time under his belt.
It’d certainly do his slim chances of making his debut against Huddersfield on Saturday no harm.
