Paul Merson releases prediction for Newcastle vs Huddersfield – “this is a big game”

Paul Merson has made his prediction for Saturday’s visit of Huddersfield to St James’ Park, with him backing us to have ‘too much’ for the Terriers and come away 2-0 winners.

The Sky pundit hasn’t tended to predict victories for us lot this season, but here he explains just why he’s ‘worried’ for David Wagner’s side, feeling they ‘bottled it’ in their recent defeat to Crystal Palace and have never looked like scoring when he’s watched them recently (you know what the means then!).

Here’s what he’s had to say ahead of the game, explaining why he expects Newcastle to have ‘too much’ for Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon:

‘I think Huddersfield melted last time out against Crystal Palace – they literally bottled it. They were poor, they didn’t have a shot, they didn’t really have a go at Crystal Palace and it got the better of them in a big football match. I think Newcastle at home will have too much for Huddersfield.

‘They never, ever looked like threatening to score against Crystal Palace and I watched them against Swansea the week before that and they played against 10 men for 79 minutes – more than that with injury time – and they never really looked like scoring there. There was one great save the goalkeeper made and Tom Ince hit the outside of the post. David Wagner should have changed it quicker and put the big centre-forward on.

‘I worry for Huddersfield now, this game is a big game and I see Newcastle winning.’

Paul predicts: Newcastle 2-0 Huddersfield

He’s made a habit of being wrong this season, with us often pulling off the total opposite of the prediction he makes, however he seems pretty confident of us seeing off a Huddersfield side he clearly worries for.

Let’s hope he’s right! It would be a HUGE step towards safety if we were to come away with all three points.
