Ex-NUFC entertainer and current TV pundit Warren Barton has backed Rafa Benitez to win the Premier League manager of the year award following Saturday’s 2-1 win at Leicester.
The win was not only an impressive one in itself – being a dominant display full of fight, organisation and desire – but it saw us move 10 points clear of the bottom three and up into the top half.
With this in mind, Fox Sports pundit and former Newcastle full-back Warren Barton took to Twitter to heap praise on Benitez, claiming the Spaniard should win the league’s manager of the year award after his incredible work with limited resources on Tyneside:
Who thinks @rafabenitezweb should get manger of the year ???.. I do ??⚽️⚫️⚪️

We all see things through black and white glasses, so bias in inevitable, however Benitez has worked wonders this season and his name should be in the mix.I don’t see him winning it, but he’s a worthy contender.
Guardiola’s City have broke Premier League records, played some of the best football we’ve ever seen and are set to win the league incredibly comfortably and Sean Dyche’s Burnley look set to finish 7th and secure a Europa League spot despite being tipped for relegation, so they’re inevitably above Rafa in the running, but either way, what he’s done this season has been nothing short of sensational.
He’s been handed an awful hand from Ashley, we’ve been doubted, tipped to go down, called a ‘Championship team’ continuously, yet we find ourself 10th and all set to finish well above the contenders to go down.
A top manager and a brilliant group of lads. Let’s hope he (and they) get their rewards this summer in the form of a new owner who can actually take this club forward.
It's about time we recognised Rafa.#NUFChttps://t.co/SUQWw4cfkW
