Bas Dost to finally seal his long-awaited move to NUFC? – Interesting claims

Long-term NUFC target Bas Dost is ‘determined’ to seal a move away from Sporting Lisbon after a fall-out with the club’s president – and the Chronicle reckon Rafa might just make another move to sign him this summer.

If there was ever a sign that the summer transfer window is fast approaching, it’s the re-emergence of talk linking Bas Dost with a move to Tyneside.

It seems the Dutch goal-machine could well be on the move this summer, however, with him pushing for a move away from the Portuguese giants after falling out with the club’s president.

Now, it feels like we’d just be putting two and two together to presume that his next destination could be Newcastle United, but the Chronicle have admitted today that Benitez attempted to sign him last summer:

“The Magpies tried to sign Netherlands striker Dost last summer, but were unable to persuade the Portuguese side to sell.

“If they do decide they want to come back for him again, a deal ought to be easier to strike after a spectacular fall-out between the Sporting players and their president.”

It’s not surprise they didn’t want to sell last summer, with him having scored 37 goals last season and 31 so far this, however that situation appears to have changed.

In all honesty, this ship may now have sailed (he’s nearly 29 and he’d still command a big fee), but it’s a deal that doesn’t seem to be dead just yet.

Four years on from him almost arriving from Wolfsburg, could NUFC finally be about to get their man this summer? We shall see, but don’t hold your breath!
